Thanks for joining me in this fifth session in our series “Healing the Hidden Wound.” In this session, we’re going talk about replacing the old lies of the past with the truth of God’s Word. I like to think of these “lies” as tapes that play in our minds, so I’ll talk about it in terms of “turning up the volume on God’s truth, instead of listening to the ‘blasts of the past’!” Research has shown that everything that our five senses have ever experienced is recorded in our brain; that’s incredible! Every taste, smell, sight, noise, and touch of our lives recorded on some sort of “hard drive” inside our cranium! Different areas of our brain can be probed, and it will immediately trigger certain memories! Amazing! What all of this means for you and I is that we never really forget anything! We may not recall certain things, but it’s there—somewhere!

The unconscious mind cannot distinguish between the experiences that are real, and those that are imagined. Add to that the fact that we now know about this thing called “virtual reality”; if you watched the movie, “Forrest Gump”, a lot of the scenes in that show depicted a character deeply involved in events that in reality, he wasn’t involved in, and yet, virtual reality led us to believe that he was involved in them! So, whether something real happens, or something imaginary happens, in our minds we can believe that it was something that actually happened! If we believe that the boogeyman is in our closet, we will break into a sweat and start to panic, even though reality would tell us that there is no boogeyman in the closet!

What I’m trying to convey to you is that when we put all kinds of garbage into your mind, whether real or imagined, we will react to that garbage! So what is needed is that we must know truth, so that we can distinguish between what is real, and what is imagined. You “turn up the volume on the truth, instead of listening to the lies of the past.” There have been those occasions when, as a child, adults said things to us that were wrong, and yet, because as adults they represented authority, we believed it! Things like “You’re not very smart!” or “You’re fat, and you’re lazy, and you’ll never be any different!” or “You’re just like your Father—worthless! Those people who said those awful things were lying! But truth can set you free!

God wants us to know the truth; His Word is the truth. If you want to be healed from the past memories of your life you have to replace the old tapes of cruel things that people have said to you with the truth of God’s Word in your heart. Romans 12.2 tells us that we are to be “transformed [made new] by the renewing of our minds [the way that we think!].” You see, our thoughts determine our feelings, and our feelings work themselves out as actions. So, it is vitally important that we guard our thought processes, and focus our thoughts on the truth.

You’re thinking, “How then, do I have my mind renewed?” Well, first you ask God to heal you of your painful memories. Hurts; rejection; sin; resentment; guilt; instances of abuse; hateful things that have been said to you. Each of these wounds need God’s healing! Secondly, you then fill your mind with God’s Word. The louder the truth of God’s Word plays in your mind, the less you will be able to hear the hurts and mistakes of the past! It’s like taking out the garbage, and replacing it with something that is new and refreshing!

The problem with most of us is that we spend more time listening to the radio or TV, or reading the newspaper, or watching the movies, or doing other things that have very little element of truth or reality to them, than we do reading and hearing the truth of God’s Word! We put more of what can become garbage into our minds that we do things that can be positive, uplifting, and renewing into our minds. We focus much more on what others say about us, than we do upon the truth that God has said about us. What does God say about you? Well, among other things, He tells us that because of His Son, Jesus, dying for us on a cross, He [God] has decided to look at us as holy and blameless [not having a single fault!] He also tells us in His Word that we are valuable; that we are worthy of love; that we can do anything with His help; that we have been forgiven.

You’ve got to decide who you’re going to believe, God, or the world. Are you going to believe the truth of God’s Word, or the gossip that others speak? It’s really your choice. Psychology teaches us that our self-esteem comes from what the most important person in our life thinks about us. We must learn to see ourselves as God sees us—as men and women with infinite value and potential! If you make Jesus Christ the most important person in your life, you’ll begin to feel better about you! When you begin to feel better about you, God will begin to use you to make an impact in your world for Him.

Again, my name is Terry, and I hope that you’ll join me in our next session!

Is The Corona Virus God's Judgment?

Over the past couple of week's, I've heard a number of people question whether or not the Covid-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic that has brought our nation to a time never before experienced in our lives,

"What if...?"

What if…? I’m guessing that those two words, and the many varying scenarios that follow, have been asked millions of times by the people of our country these past couple of weeks! I have found myself

I realize that most of you already realize this, but PRAYER WORKS!! It never ceases to amaze me, even though I’ve known and trusted in the power of prayer for my entire life, that God continues to act
